11 Reasons to go Backpacking

January 16, 2022 by Talia

If there is one activity that should be done by everyone at least once in their life it is backpacking. Whether you are looking for a spiritual experience or somewhere to crash after a heavy night out, backpacking has something for everyone.

And we’re going to let you why you should go backpacking at least once in your lifetime with our list of the top 11 reasons to go backpacking:

1) It is good for your soul

Backpacking can really help you discover who you are while freeing up your mind and body to wander the planet. Without any real obligations, backpacking allows you to search within yourself and to really get in touch with your soul and what makes you happy. This could be being alone with your thoughts or even meeting new people for a night of partying. Either way, backpacking forces you to let go and makes you appreciate everything around you.

2) You become more confident

Backpacking lets you discover the world without the help of others. Deciding where to eat, sleep or party are all choices that are left up to you and this can really help build your confidence as you learn how to be responsible.

3) You become more responsible

As we mentioned above, backpacking forces you to learn how to live by yourself without any outside help. This includes keeping track of your money and budgeting for daily expenses. After you have gone backpacking and experienced how to survive on your own, you will find that nothing is really impossible.

4) You learn languages quickly

While backpacking around Europe or South East Asia, you will meet all sorts of wonderful locals that are more than happy to show off their hometown’s best spots. Learning even just a few words in the local language can also be helpful when it comes to eating, shopping, or partying.

5) You learn the real value of money

As exciting as backpacking can be, you will quickly realize how expensive your daily expenses really are. After experiencing high prices for everything from check-in hostels to souvenirs at tourist spots, you will soon begin to understand how much things actually cost.

6) You learn how to be flexible

Sometimes the best laid plans are just that…the best laid plans. When you are backpacking, you will quickly learn that things can go wrong very fast, but this is all part of the experience. Keeping an open mind and learning how to deal with unforeseen circumstances is something that can only be learned by backpacking.

7) You learn how to be social

While it is always nice to have time alone with yourself, meeting new people is one of the best parts of backpacking. Whether you are drinking in a foreign bar or talking with fellow travellers on trains and buses, backpacking really helps you open up and become more social.

8) You become more responsible for your actions

While backpacking you will quickly learn that freedom does come with responsibility and sometimes you can get carried away in the moment. Learning how to be responsible for yourself and your actions is a valuable lesson that everyone should learn while traveling.

9) You meet like-minded people

Backpacking also gives you the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals that can add value to your life. You may find yourself in a setting where everyone around you is also backpacking and this allows you to quickly bond with people who share similar interests.

10) It teaches humility

Just like we mentioned above about how backpacking will make you more humble, it will also teach you more about yourself. While backpacking, you will quickly learn how much you really need and what you can live without.

11) It helps broaden your outlook on life

Backpacking allows you to discover the world around us with a new set of eyes. By exploring different cultures and meeting locals, backpacking allows us to experience a whole new way of living that can open your eyes to what actually matters. It also allows you to travel around the world at a cheap cost.

In conclusion, backpacking helps you learn more about yourself and the world around us. Backpacking can also help you open up to new cultures and people while teaching you valuable life lessons that only backpacking can offer. Learning how to be independent, responsible, social, humble, focused, and open-minded are all valuable skills that everyone should learn eventually in their lifetime.
