Leaving All The Old Things Behind
It was improbable that they would ever experience any level of consistency in their lives because their mother maintained an unstable connection with her lover. This made it difficult that they would ever have a stable living situation. Because of this, it was highly unlikely that they would be able to have children of their own. Dorothy was able to secure a divorce from her second husband in 1983, twenty years after her second husband had verbally and physically abused her during their marriage.
During those twenty years, Dorothy had been subjected to her second husband’s abuse. Mike’s story goes that his mother had reason to suspect that his father, Richard, was having an affair with another woman. As a consequence of her suspicions, Mike’s mother allegedly forced Richard out of the house, and he subsequently moved out on his own. Mike’s story is supported by the fact that Richard moved out on his own.
