Samuel L. Jackson agreed to appear as Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequel trilogy beginning with Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), but he had one unusual request. He asked for a purple lightsaber so he could easily spot himself during large battle scenes, and the filmmakers agreed.
