Nathan Fillion auditioned for Angel in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997) but failed to make it past the early stages of casting. David Boreanaz won the role instead. Fillion eventually joined the series years later as Caleb, demonstrating how one unsuccessful audition does not always close future doors.
