The phone call reached Alan Parker while production was still moving across countries. Madonna was pregnant. That one sentence immediately turned the remaining schedule into arithmetic: how much dancing was left, which fitted costumes had already appeared in earlier footage, what could be moved forward, and how long continuity would remain workable. Parker originally tried to keep the news within a small circle, but planning conversations became so convoluted that secrecy itself started interfering with production. She eventually announced the pregnancy.
