#13: Guy Haines – Rope, 1948
The 1948 film Rope was shot in a single room over long, continuous shots. The cast was small, and each person fulfilled a vital role in heightening the tension and drawing out the narrative. Guy Haines, portrayed by Richard Todd, is a seemingly innocent man who gets suckered into committing murder. His moral dilemma and increasing awareness of his vulnerability make him a compelling character with a performance worth remembering.
