Richard sought to “be loyal to the spirit of the original building,” but this proved to be a challenge. For one thing, they were roughly six feet below ground level when they struck bedrock.
That entailed raising the cabin a few feet above the ground, which would only enhance the views the family would enjoy once the building was completed, but more on that later.
