#14: Lance Benson owned every piece of Swett
The sign still said Swett, although by the 2010s the town beneath it consisted mainly of a tavern, a house, a workshop, trailers, and a few acres of South Dakota prairie. Ownership had gradually concentrated over the years until the whole place belonged to one person. Lance Benson acquired it in 1998, lost it in a divorce settlement, and then managed to acquire Swett again in 2012. Two years later, he put his tiny domain on the market for $399,000.
