#11: Atlanta’s Stone Mountain Freeway That Stops Short
The road seems to run out of certainty. East of Atlanta, the Stone Mountain Freeway exists, but the larger vision behind it never fully reached downtown in the way planners once imagined. The proposed route was tied to long fights over highways through in-town neighborhoods, including areas around Druid Hills and what later became Freedom Parkway. By the time the dust settled, Atlanta had spent decades arguing over what kind of city it wanted to become.
