For years, the argument followed the river. Dallas debated whether a major toll road should run through the Trinity River corridor, with supporters pointing to traffic relief and opponents warning about floodplain issues, cost, parkland, and the chance to build something more civic along the water. The Trinity Parkway never became the road its backers imagined. In 2017, the Dallas City Council withdrew support, effectively ending a debate that had lasted for decades.
