Throughout history, humans have been telling stories, sharing wisdom, and recording knowledge in books. Some of these texts are thousands of years old—far older than most people realize. From epic poems and philosophical dialogues to religious texts and practical guides, these ancient works give us a glimpse into the thoughts, beliefs, and daily lives of people from long ago.
#1: The Pyramid Texts
Dating back over 4300 years, the Pyramid Texts are the oldest known religious writings in the world. Carved inside ancient Egyptian pyramids, these hieroglyphic spells were meant to guide pharaohs safely into the afterlife. Found mainly in Saqqara, the texts reveal early Egyptian beliefs about death, resurrection, and the divine journey beyond the mortal world.
