#2: Yule’s Log-Burning Celebrations
In Northern Europe, Yule marked the turning of the sun at midwinter and symbolized survival through the harshest season. Central to the celebration was the Yule log, a massive piece of wood chosen to burn for multiple days. Families decorated the log with greenery and carved symbols of protection before setting it ablaze.

The fire was believed to bring luck, chase away evil spirits, and encourage the return of the sun’s warmth.
