#13: Electric Chair series by Andy Warhol – Various museums, including the Whitney and The Broad
Created in 1967, Andy Warhol’s Electric Chair series was widely controversial due to its subject matter and the way Warhol presented it. As part of his broader “Death and Disaster” collection, Warhol showed different electric chairs, a symbol of capital punishment and death, which resonated with the public at a time when executions were still very much part of the public debate in New York.
