He Played Football In High School
He was a harsh and tough commander in the Allied troops during World War II. At West Point’s varsity football team, Dwight D. Eisenhower was a standout halfback and linebacker. A game against the Carlisle Indian School football team, which was captained by legendary athlete Jim Thorpe, remembered Eisenhower in November 1912 as one of the most memorable of his life.
Apparently, Eisenhower “dreamed of striking Thorpe so hard that he would be knocked unconscious.” Unfortunately, Eisenhower ended up with a knee injury instead of the other way around. Fortunately, his military career was unaffected by the injuries, and he went on to defeat Hitler.
