As much as Harry Truman may not have enjoyed bowling, in 1950 White House staffers organized the first White House bowling league with his backing and encouragement. From secretaries to groundskeepers to Secret Service agents, the league’s clubs had a wide range of employees.
A bowling alley was installed in the West Wing in 1947 as a birthday present for the president. Now, it’s called the Situation Room because of that. President Nixon constructed a second bowling alley during his tenure in office, as we already learned.
