He Was Honored For His Efforts To Finish The War Effectively
Wilson’s presence in Congress helped persuade lawmakers that the United States could not remain neutral during World War I. In 1917, Wilson recognized that the United States could no longer stay neutral. Germany had destroyed numerous American ships only a few days before.
Wilson acted swiftly to increase the size of the American military. Treaty of Versailles was signed two years later, bringing an end to the war. In recognition of his efforts to bring an end to the conflict, the president received the Nobel Peace Prize the following year.
