The Appearance of the First Concorde Jet In the United States
When Air France and British Airways constructed their Concorde jet fleet, they cut travel times in half. After the first supersonic transatlantic flight on October 19, 1977, this Concorde jet was photographed in a hangar at JFK Airport in New York.
The Concorde planes were equipped with powerful engines capable of reaching speeds of up to 1,350 miles per hour. In a contest to be the first to create these supersonic jets, Britain teamed up with France. They were pitted against the US, who finally pulled out, and Russia, whose initial attempts at escape were fatal.
