American “It Girl” Ali MacGraw
When Ali MacGraw was named the top female box office star in the world in 1972, she had only appeared in three films. She was also awarded the distinction of having her footprints and signature engraved at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre the same year.
She began her career in the fashion industry as a model before moving on to television advertising. Goodbye, Columbus, from 1969, was MacGraw’s first hit. She featured opposite Ryan O’Neal in Love Story the next year, which put her on Hollywood’s radar. MacGraw also starred in The Getaway, Convoy, and Players in the 1970s.
