George Lucas may have had enormous success with Star Wars in 1977, but you may recall that he had his first feature-length directorial triumph with American Graffiti in 1973.
The coming-of-age comedy was based on a group of teenagers growing up in Modesto, California in the early 1960s. Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Harrison Ford, Cindy Williams, and Candy Clark star in American Graffiti. At the 46th Academy Awards, it was nominated for five Oscars and won Best Motion Picture for a Musical or Comedy at the 31st Golden Globe Awards.
