U2 officially formed in Dublin in 1978 with Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. Although the members played under earlier names before U2, the band’s lineup has remained unchanged since adopting its famous identity. Albums like The Joshua Tree (1987) turned them into global rock icons.
