#5: Search and Destroy — Iggy and the Stooges (1973)
The opening track of Raw Power runs three and a half minutes of pure forward momentum, Williamson’s guitar hitting at a speed and aggression that most British punk bands spent 1977 trying to match. Iggy’s vocal sits above it like someone shouting instructions at a fire. The fast-loud-short template punk bands claimed as their own invention was already here, already perfect, already done.
