Whether you’re into outdoor activities or want to check out a museum, there’s bound to be something on this list for everyone. So pack up the family and get ready to take advantage of everything Oregon has to offer!

1. Biking Along the Historic Columbia River Highway

This bike trail stretches nearly 80 miles, so you’ll never run out of things to do along the way. The route is mostly flat, making it great for kids and adults alike.

You can stop off at one of the three service areas for a picnic or take a break from biking to hike up to some waterfalls. You can even opt for an e-bike if you don’t feel like peddling!

2. Experiencing History at Fort Clatsop

This recreation of an 18th-century fort is open year-round and it’s a great place for the whole family. Kids will love exploring the fort, which is set in an accurate replica of what it was like during that time period.

If you’re feeling up to it, take a hike around the 2.5-mile trail that goes around the campground or learn more about Lewis and Clark by reading some of the signs around the site.

3. Feeding a Giraffe at the Eliott Zoo in Hillsboro

Feeding giraffes is one of those bucket list items that people often think they have to travel all the way to Africa to accomplish, but you’ll find them right in your own backyard! At just $4 for adults and $3 for kids, this is a chance you definitely don’t want to miss.

4. Getting Wet at Silver Falls State Park

Silver Falls is Oregon’s largest state park and it features over 10 waterfalls, so chances are you’ll spot some rainbows while there. The trails range from easy to quite difficult, so be sure you’re wearing the right shoes, but the effort is definitely worth it.

5. Going on a Scavenger Hunt at The Grotto in Portland

This Catholic sanctuary features beautiful gardens and shrines that your kids will love to explore. Since it’s free to visit, be sure to stop by during your next trip into Portland!

6. Taking a Tour of the Ross Island Sand & Gravel Quarry

Portland is well-known for its bridges, but did you know that they are made out of sand and gravel? If you have time, be sure to take a tour of this fascinating quarry in Southeast Portland. You’ll learn all about the materials used in building our city’s iconic structures.

7. Strolling Through the Japanese Garden in Portland

If your family loves to garden, this peaceful space is right up your alley. You can tour it yourself or stop by for a tea ceremony or garden festival. Plus, you’ll have beautiful views of downtown Portland throughout the whole visit!

8. Taking a Ride on the Oregon Zephyr

The Zephyr takes you on a scenic journey from Portland to Cascades Depot, where you’ll be able to enjoy the scenery of Mount Hood and beyond. The train runs daily, so it’s easy to make multiple trips if you want to see everything Oregon has to offer.

9. Taking a Tour of Rooftop Farms

Portland might be known for its unique food scene, but did you know that over 1/3 of the city is devoted to growing vegetables? You can take a tour of one of these rooftop farms any time of year, but if your family loves fresh veggies, spring will be especially fun.

10. Zooming Down Adventure Park at Skibowl

Winter isn’t the only time of year when you can enjoy a ski resort. The Adventure Park at Skibowl is open from late April to early October and gives your family a chance to take on lots of fun activities, from biking and tubing to zip lining. If you’re feeling really adventurous, be sure to stop by for Tuesday night glow bowling!

In conclusion, Oregon is one of the most beautiful states in our country and it has so much to offer your family. You can visit any time of year, but be sure to check out some of these great local attractions next time you’re looking for some fun.
