#15: Two-Handed Shot Put — Stockholm 1912
Most throwers spend years perfecting one dominant arm. Stockholm decided that sounded unfairly convenient. In the two-handed shot put, competitors threw separately with the right and left hands, and their best result from each side was combined. Similar two-handed versions existed for the discus and javelin. Ralph Rose of the United States won the shot-put event. The experiment disappeared after 1912, returning field athletics to the sensible assumption that athletes should be allowed to use whichever arm is significantly less terrible.
