#4: Sunset Boulevard (1950)
A black comedy film so beloved it was adapted for the stage as a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sunset Boulevard is an absolute classic. It centers around a fading silent film star named Norma Desmond (portrayed by Gloria Swanson) and a manipulative screenwriter named Joe Gillis (Willian Holden), swiping audiences into a whirlwind of drama.

Sunset Boulevard is frequently listed as one of the greatest films ever made and was one of the first included in the National Film Registry. It was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and, although Swanson didn’t win Best Actress, her performance alone is well worth a viewing.
