#18: House of Frankenstein Ensemble Role (1944)
In House of Frankenstein (1944), Boris’ career took a curious turn. For the first time in the series, Boris Karloff stepped away from the Monster to play Dr. Gustav Niemann, a vengeful scientist determined to control the very creation he once embodied. Produced by Universal Pictures, the film became one of its earliest monster crossovers, bringing together Dracula, the Wolf Man, and the Frankenstein Monster in a single storyline. The Monster, now played by Glenn Strange, even took cues from Karloff’s original physicality. Alongside them, John Carradine appeared as Dracula, Lon Chaney Jr. returned as the Wolf Man, and J. Carrol Naish added emotional weight as Niemann’s assistant.
