#9: The Traveling Camera Rig
To film motorcycles racing along open highways, the crew mounted an Arriflex camera onto a makeshift platform in the back of a moving pickup truck. The setup involved plywood, practical ingenuity, and far less stabilization than modern crews would consider comfortable. Its rough movement became part of the film’s texture, putting viewers beside the riders instead of safely observing them. Drones were unnecessary; Easy Rider achieved freedom with lumber, bolts, and somebody willing to drive.
