The Methods Behind Making a Living
When they lived off the land, Christiana and her mother tried to make do with what few resources they had, but they were unable to make ends meet. As a consequence of this, in order to get nourishment such as rice, they would make the arduous journey into town to trade dried flowers and leaves for money.
During an interview with The New York Times, Christian recalled how, when she was younger, she used to beg her mother to let her stay home on particular days, but her requests were never granted. She said she was always disappointed by her mother’s refusal to grant her wishes. She reported that this cycle lasted throughout her life.
