#9: The Joe Louis Defeat
Braddock lost the heavyweight title to Joe Louis on June 22, 1937, in Chicago. He even knocked Louis down in the first round, a startling moment against the younger “Brown Bomber.” But Louis adjusted and eventually knocked Braddock out in the eighth. The defeat was decisive, but it did not shame Braddock. He had stood with one of the greatest heavyweights who ever lived, made him get up, and left with his pride intact.
