#13: Kapoho
A recent lower East Rift Zone eruption completely covered a peaceful oceanfront community under a thick blanket of fresh lava flows. The volcanic activity destroyed roughly seven hundred homes and entirely filled a beautiful local bay with new land. The disaster provided scientists with a vivid, modern example of how quickly a neighborhood can be erased within American territory.
