#18: Ascension and Tristan da Cunha Volcanic Activity
Remote islands scattered across the Atlantic Ocean have forced modern populations to cope with the constant threat of active volcanic vents. The entire population of Tristan da Cunha was evacuated to Great Britain in 1961 after a sudden eruption threatened their only settlement. The islanders spent two years abroad before bravely returning to rebuild their isolated homes atop the cooling rock.
