#9: Cagsawa
The thriving town of Cagsawa was entirely buried during a violent February eruption of the famously symmetrical Mayon Volcano. Over twelve hundred local residents were killed when they sought shelter inside a large stone church that was quickly overwhelmed by lava and ash. Today, the lone stone bell tower still rises above the solidified black lava flow as a famous historical landmark.
