#2: Soldiers Spent Little Time in Actual Combat
Despite the war’s intensity, most soldiers did not fight daily. Because of weather and travel limits, armies followed seasonal campaigns. Soldiers spent much of their time marching, drilling, or waiting in camp. Disease was a bigger threat than battle, causing most deaths during the war due to poor medical knowledge.
