#11: Operational Missions Over Europe (1943)
Gable was assigned to the 351st Bomb Group in England and flew operational missions in B-17 bombers while gathering footage for the documentary Combat America. Military photos show him not as Rhett Butler at altitude but as an officer doing dangerous, unglamorous work in cramped aircraft over Europe. He earned honors for his service. The movie star entered the war. The war did not care about billing.
