#15: Teacher’s Pet (1958)
Opposite Doris Day in Teacher’s Pet, Gable showed he could still handle light comedy with relaxed precision. He plays a hardened newspaper editor forced into contact with modern education, which is basically an excuse to let him grumble charmingly while Day brightens the room. The stills show an older, smoother Gable: less wolfish and more weathered, but still dangerous to a close-up. Charm had not retired.
