#6: The Coronation (1938)
By 1938, the public had spoken loudly enough for Hollywood to turn it into ceremony. Ed Sullivan famously helped crown Gable “The King of Hollywood” after a fan poll, and the title stuck because it sounded ridiculous and also completely correct. Photos from that period show a star who had learned the value of appearing amused by his own mythology. A crown is silly. Box-office power is not.
