We think of cartoons and animated shows as strictly for little kids, but that’s not always the case. Just because they’re bright and colorful and feature animal characters doesn’t mean they’re necessarily meant for kids. Many cartoons kids grew up watching in the 1990s and early 2000s would horrify today’s parents. We’re here today to take a look at some of these nostalgic cartoons that really aren’t as appropriate for kids as we once thought.
#1: The Ren & Stimpy Show
Those of you who grew up in the 90s remember The Ren & Stimpy Show. It aired in 1991 on Nickelodeon and ran for five wild seasons. It follows the adventures of Ren, a wacky chihuahua, and his friend Stimpy, a Manx cat that is good-natured but not the sharpest tool in the shed.

If you followed the show back in the 90s, you probably know that despite the advanced and visually unique animation, the story was sometimes not kid-friendly, with dark humor jokes and occasional violence.
