Late in World War II, Germany developed the Krummlauf for the StG 44 rifle. Its curved barrel lets soldiers shoot from cover or inside tanks. The idea was clever, but bullets often shattered in the bend. Accuracy was poor, and the attachment wore out quickly, making it more experimental than practical in combat.
