Covers That Expressed Something Very Different From the Original

Originally recorded by The Top Notes and later popularized by The Isley Brothers as an upbeat dance-party track, “Twist and Shout” was a straightforward R&B hit. Recording at the end of a marathon twelve-hour session, John Lennon delivered a legendary, throat-shredding vocal performance while battling a severe cold. His raw, desperate vocal delivery gave the track a wild, dangerous rock edge that outshone previous versions.
