#18: What We Do in the Shadows (2014)
Before it was a hit TV show, What We Do in the Shadows was a brilliant little mockumentary from New Zealand. Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement directed and starred in this 2014 film about four vampire roommates trying to get by in the modern world. The ancient vampires Viago, Vladislav, and their undead friends are filmed as they bicker over household chores, try to get into nightclubs, and deal with werewolves. The comedy comes from treating their supernatural lives with the most mundane, everyday realism. Their centuries of power mean nothing when it’s their turn to do the dishes.
