#22: Native American Warbonnets (Plains Nations)
Among Plains tribes like the Lakota, Cheyenne, and Crow, warbonnets made of eagle feathers were given only to those who showed exceptional courage. Each feather had to be earned, often for acts of leadership or valor in battle. Full headdresses, worn by respected chiefs, carried deep ceremonial meaning. Today, authentic warbonnets remain sacred, kept within Native families or tribal institutions, and sometimes displayed at museums.
