#21: The “Tinfoil-Hat” Electronic Warfare of Operation Window
The Royal Air Force used Operation Window, a new form of electronic warfare, during an air raid on Hamburg in 1943. Millions of tiny strips of aluminum foil, known as “Window,” were dropped to trick German radar systems. It seemed as though hundreds of planes were attacking simultaneously due to the false signal produced by the falling strips. Finally, the German air defenses were completely useless, allowing British bombers to attack targets secretly.
