#15: Birmingham and the Metal Machine (1970s)
Birmingham, England was once a center of industry. By the ’70s, it was a city of unemployment and gray skies. Black Sabbath grew up there, and you can hear it in their music: grinding, angry, metallic. The factory shut down, but the sound lived on.
