Many associate grunge with the 1990s. But the truth is things had started way before. As Kurt Cobain quietly sang Lead Belly’s “Where Did You Sleep Last Night,” Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged performance laid bare the raw emotion and folk-blues roots that had always haunted the edges of grunge.
