#18: The Unfinished Obelisk at Aswan
The Unfinished Obelisk is ancient engineering caught mid-sentence. Still attached to the granite bedrock in an Aswan quarry, it shows how Egyptians carved huge monoliths before disaster, cracks, or practical reality ended the plan. Had it been completed, it would have been enormous. Instead, it became something maybe more useful: a behind-the-scenes look at ambition interrupted. Even unfinished, it has more presence than many completed monuments.
