#7: The Catacombs of Tuna el-Gebel
Tuna el-Gebel offers a very different kind of Egyptian wonder: underground corridors packed with the remains of sacred animals. The catacombs are associated with ibis and baboon mummies linked to the god Thoth, creating a vast necropolis that feels both eerie and scholarly. No giant pyramid announces itself here. Instead, the site pulls visitors into the ritual logic of a world where animals, gods, death, and devotion were all connected.
