#7: Velcro
George de Mestral, a Swiss engineer, took his dog for a walk in 1941, but when they returned home, George had to spend some time pulling burrs from the dog’s fur and off his own trousers. He marveled at the tenacity of these little seed pods, so he put one under his microscope. He observed the tiny hooks that clung to the loops of fabric. George made his over version of this … a fastener he called Velcro.
