#9: Tin Foil Hasn’t Been Made From Tin in Years
Modern “tin foil” is made from aluminum, a shift that happened in the early twentieth century. Aluminum proved cheaper, more flexible, and less prone to affecting food taste. The older term simply stayed in common speech. It is a case where language resisted technological change.
