Just when you thought that dress code rules didn’t matter all that much and could be overlooked, this high school in Texas would show otherwise. What they tried to enforce exactly upon one of their students we will leave up to you to decide whether it was right or wrong. But in the end, the entire row showed the ugly face of small-town America in our eyes. Was it blown up by the media or did the student in question have a legitimate argument? Whatever the case may be, we are here to lay down the facts of just what happened and how this change affected the policies and appearance of high schools in lesser-known parts of America. Get your popcorn ready and witness what started out as a debate over hair length, that turned into a national news story. We just hope that by the end you’ll have an understanding of other hairstyles of all shapes and sizes, and how they can be an important part of someone’s identity and culture.
Meet the student
18-year-old DeAndre Arnold was a regular teenager growing up in Texas at the time of this incident. Specifically, in the district known as Barbers Hill, which belonged to the town of Mont Belvieu. He was known as a good student who followed the rules, never made trouble, and got along with just about everyone.

He grew up in that area and was well accustomed to life there and the sleepy pace of the Texas town. That is why when this story hit, it was one of the biggest things to ever happen to Mont Belvieu in recent times, in fact probably since its founding.
