What did DeAndre’s parents think about all this
DeAndre’s parents are both members of the black community, his mother was born and raised in America, and his father hails from Trinidad and Tobago. They argued that dreadlocks were part of his heritage on his father’s side and it was a cultural issue, thus giving DeAndre a right to keep his hair length long.
But even this argument fell on deaf ears and the school district showed no respect for his family’s heritage and identity. This was really becoming a serious issue that needed to be resolved appropriately, by rational and fair-minded people. The school officials gathered one last time to discuss the issue.
