Activists step in
Shortly after the news story broke out and reached all corners of the country, rights activists from the black community heard the call of DeAndre. Representatives from the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement sided with the teenager and pointed out why this was in fact a racial issue and had valid arguments.
They pointed out that the high school had a vast majority caucasian student body and had rules that applied to white youth and not minority groups. They didn’t respect or take into account different hairstyles or cultures because the lack of diversity never forced them to. But now with the pressure building, the school had to do something.
